Genital warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. It is one of the most common types of Sexually Transmitted Infection in men. The HP virus is very contagious and it affects many sexually active individuals. The symptoms usually come out in 2 months after exposure to the virus. Some symptoms can come out in later years.
Genital warts are usually painless fleshy growths or tiny clustered bumps that are cauliflower-like growing on the skin of affected individuals. It is usually transmitted via skin contact with an infected person. Sometimes, it does not have any visual sign that is why it can go unnoticed especially for the male population. The male genital warts symptoms are less obvious than in females.
Genital warts symptoms in men such as small or large masses are commonly found in the shaft or the tip of the penis, on the scrotum or around the anus. Genital warts can also be found on the mouth especially when an individual had an oral sex with an infected person.
Symptoms of male genital warts may be visible with the naked eye. But sometimes, they need to be magnified in order to be identified as genital warts. Genital warts can also be determined when it is swabbed with acetic acid. A suspicious growth is a Genital wart when it turns white when swabbed with the acetic acid.
The Genital warts symptoms in men are treatable. Doctors would usually recommend treatments at home with Podophyllotoxin (aka podofilox) solution gel or cream for small warts. It is applied to the affected area twice a day or according to the Doctor`s advice. Other general warts that are large enough may require surgery to remove it.
Genital warts are not dangerous because it is treatable when detected early. Theories of the past stipulates that as long as the virus is present in the human body, the warts will keep on recurring and the HP virus is believed to remain in the human body for a lifetime. However, due to modern technologies, there were new studies that prove that the virus can be cleared thru the body`s immunological response.
